Summer is fast approaching, and apparently, we want our dogs to be healthy and happy. We may catch ourselves wondering if we are doing what we are supposed to do for our dogs. Are we doing everything we can have to keep them happy? Are we feeding them the right foods to make them healthy?
Of course, our pups can’t tell us what they are feeling, right? But you can ask yourself, what about their reactions? What if my pet’s tail is between his legs? Does it mean he is scared? If he is sleeping spread-eagled on the floor, does it mean he is contented? Since our pets can’t tell us what they are going through, it can be hard to assess what they are feeling.
Fortunately, in this post, we have listed ways we can keep our loyal friends happy and satisfied. Read on to learn about these tips.
Dogs need a good night sleep too.
See to it that your dog has a comfortable bed where he can get a good night’s rest. Your pet may look for the most comfortable place in your home where he can lie and sleep comfortably. But over time, your dog may become too large for him to use the same bed or place. Therefore, you need to find him a good, comfortable bed that can cater to his needs.
But keep in mind that a dog may not see his new bed the way you do. Your dog may not recognize his new bed, and, secondly, it may look to him like a new toy. Sometimes, they may not sleep in the same room as humans do. They get up a lot during the night and may end up sleeping in a different room from the night before.
Check the weather
Summer can be a great time to have fun with your pet outdoors. Running, swimming, walking – these are just some of the activities you can do during summer. Check the temperature outside before heading out. You can do it by putting the back of your hand on the sidewalk. If you can’t hold it for 6 seconds without getting hurt, chances are, it can cause injury to your dog’s paws.
Take him for a swim instead. You can check out your local pet pool or try creating your own pool in your backyard.
Never run out of ideas to get some exercise.
Physical activity is a must among many pet dogs. Any form of physical activities will be fine with your dog. Some breeds love to chase balls, some like to play Frisbee; others get excited to join any canine agility contests.
If you need to spend some time outdoors, be sure to take precautions to avoid accidents. Bring lots of water for rehydration and see to it that you don’t go out during the hottest time of the day.
Feeding your pets with treats or snacks is also another way you can keep them happy and showing them love. However, be sure not to overfeed him to prevent weight gain.
